Compensation: $20-$25/hour, pending experience

The Local Sound Collaborative is a nonprofit organization rooted in Rochester, NY, dedicated to creating a thriving ecosystem for local musicians through financial support, education, and community engagement. Our Music Makers program brings live, interactive music experiences to young children in daycare and youth development centers, helping to instill a lifelong love of music.

About the Role

We’re looking for a musical, energetic, and caring facilitator to lead engaging group music sessions for children ages 1–6. You’ll sing, play simple instruments, and create a fun, interactive experience that helps kids build confidence and connect through music.

No teaching degree required—just reliable transportation, experience with kids, and a love for music!

What You’ll Do

  • Lead 30–45 minute music sessions for young children

  • Use singing, movement, rhythm games, storytelling, and props to engage kids

  • Prep lessons using a flexible, easy-to-follow curriculum

  • Represent LSC’s values of creativity, inclusion, and community

  • Transport and care for small instruments (e.g., hand drums, shakers, scarves)

  • Give feedback and collaborate on new lesson ideas

  • Attend occasional team meetings, trainings, or events

What You Need

  • Experience working with children ages 1–6 (teaching, camps, babysitting, etc.)

  • Musical skills: ability to sing and play at least one instrument (guitar, ukulele, or keyboard preferred)

  • Positive, patient, and reliable personality

  • Access to reliable transportation (most sites are within 20 minutes of the city)

  • Willingness to complete a background check

Bonus if you…

  • Have experience in early childhood or music education

  • Speak Spanish or another second language

  • Are excited by inclusive, community-based learning
