Music Education Coordinator 

Location: Rochester, NY (on-site, various daycare and youth center locations)
Reports to: Executive Director, Local Sound Collaborative
Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $52,000 per year, plus health insurance

The Local Sound Collaborative is a nonprofit organization rooted in Rochester, NY, dedicated to creating a thriving ecosystem for local musicians through financial support, education, and community engagement. Our music education programs encompass afterschool music classes, one on one lessons, and our most in demand program - Music Makers. This program brings live, interactive music experiences to young children in daycare and youth development centers, helping to instill a lifelong love of music. Currently we work with over 25 school sites in bringing these programs to their students and communities.

The Music Education Coordinator is an energetic, reliable, and musically-skilled individual who will be able to lead a large portion of our group-based music sessions for children ages 0–5. This person will facilitate joyful, age-appropriate music experiences that support early childhood development, creativity, and community connection. In tandem with leading classes, this position will be responsible for curriculum development, site coordination, and managing part-time staff/volunteers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead 30–45 minute music sessions at participating partner sites (daycares, youth centers, etc)

  • Assist with site coordination - finding new schools and daycares to work with and build those partnerships in a meaningful way

  • Build on the existing music maker curriculum, and develop lesson plans for use

  • Represent the Local Sound Collaborative’s mission and values at every session

  • Transport and maintain small musical equipment as needed (percussion instruments, props, etc.)

  • Collaborate with LSC team to provide feedback and shape curriculum improvements

  • Attend occasional team meetings, training sessions, and community events

  • Potential to manage part time staff after onboarding effectively

Qualifications

  • Passion for music and early childhood development

  • Experience working with young children in educational, recreational, or care settings

  • Ability to play an instrument (guitar, ukulele, keyboard, etc.)

  • Strong communication, reliability, and organizational skills

  • Reliable transportation to travel to different partner sites

  • Background check required upon hire

Preferred but Not Required

  • Degree or coursework in music education, early childhood education, or related field

  • Bilingual (especially Spanish) is a plus

  • Familiarity with social justice initiatives that align with the LSC mission
