Introducing: Malikk Truitt

You know that friend you have that is really good at making friends, but also tells their friends deep down they are some what of an introvert? Well that is my guy and yours - Malikk Truitt - and he is our newest employee at the Local Sound Collaborative. I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Malikk to the team. His superpower is connecting with people, and he excels in creating space for others to shine. That’s why he will be helping to facilitate events, engaging with donors, and building relationships with our community partners. Malikk works incredibly hard to get shit done, and cares a whole lot about this city. Below he outlines some of his previous work, how he got started with LSC, and why he is excited about the work moving forward - Ray

I like to think of myself as a jack of many trades. From painting houses to canvassing communities for work, and from shooting my bow to inline skating through the city for hobbies. However, I am not a musician. I have always loved music though. Over time, the question came to me "how can I not only give something back, but actually participate in that community?" The answer turned out to be simple. The Local Sound Collaborative.

When I was approached to volunteer for the Artists Grants Committee to interview local artists, they told me it was a big commitment, and to take some time before answering. I said yes immediately, and I never looked back. I have met and gotten to hear the stories of more musicians since beginning to work with LSC this past year than in the entire rest of my life.

The question for me, then, became how can I stay involved? Not only have I found a warm and talented community right in the thick of things in this city, but I actually get to feel like I'm positively affecting musicians the way they have positively affected me. It's also a thrill to be a part of things right as they're getting started.

When I think of how much they have accomplished in two short years, I can only imagine what the future of this organization will blossom into. To that end I have been thrilled to accept a part time position as the Community Engagement Coordinator! And I can't wait to see where we go from here.
